Since the kids were little ones, creating a Summer Bucket List was a key activity for us. We would brainstorm all ideas – basic to something extreme – and then narrow it down to those we would like to move forward with.
With school, you need to keep a timeline in place on when the Summer assignments were due, and aim to have them all completed by the middle of July, give or take. The kids should enjoy their time off but of course, need to know that assignments must be completed as agreed upon.
This Summer’s list will get printed and put up in the kitchen as a daily reminder of taking full advantage of Summer, and most importantly, TO DO STUFF! The items do not have to be elaborate, in fact you want to make sure that you have some on there that are easily achievable. It is a great feeling to be able to cross something off of the list. For example, we live in a beach neighborhood so we are planning a nice dinner beach date.
In addition to the activities for the family, I also make my own personal project list. For example, last year I scanned all of my family photos and put them on a cloud-based site. Within my personal list, I have a special category for the house projects that I want to complete.
For this year, we are creating the Bucket List on Canva and will make a nice poster out of it. It’s a great app for this project and if you are not familiar with it, check it out. You can upload specific pictures for your bucket list items.
I usually start preparing my bucket list in May as it gives you enough time to start planning and budgeting for the activities.
This is not complete as I always tweak it but here is where I am at:
- Dinner Date on the beach
- Visit a local museum
- Hiking
- House Projects
- Work on family albums (never-ending project)
- Organize my Dropbox
- Horseback Riding
- Spontaneous Weekend Getaway
- Niagara Falls
- Road Trips
- Simplify House
- Learn 3 new recipes
- Digital declutter
- Paint Living Room White?
