Recently read a short story about a man who was a workaholic and had a Come to Jesus moment about how he was spending his life. He actually calculated the weekend left in his life, filled a jar with marbles in that amount. Moving forward, he took one out one marble that every weekend pass. He made a conscious decision that his time is more valuable than working and not spending time with the people he loves the most.
Based on this article I immediately calculate my weekends left on this earth got on amazon and ordered a ton of marbles. My spunky Nanny Gillan lived to 90 hence, I decided I will have a lifespan up to 90 years of age. Hence, I have 2,236 weekends to cherish on this earth.
The weekends do not have to be spent on some extravagant excursion. However, I quickly reflected on my best moments and they came out of pure simple enjoyment. So I scraped the elaborate idea of plans and basically made a bucket list for weekends!
Here are several examples of what is on my weekend list…
- Experiment with a new recipe and do a themed family dinner
- Day trip to the Long Island Vineyards
- Day trip to a hiking trail upstate
- Weekend in the city
- Riding bikes in Central Park
- Weekend in the South.. Ex Charleston or Savannah
- Try a new restaurant
- Breakfast for dinner
- Movies outside
- Spa weekend
- Try a new workout spot (Orange Theory)
- Movies in Bryant Park
- Dinner on the Beach
- Put three locations in a hat and base your road trip based on what you pick
My list will definitely change as my interest change however it serves a purpose. The whole objective is to change my mindset on how I spend my time. My list will live happily on my dropbox and I will review every time I haven’t any clue on what to do with my weekend. I will also use it to plan my yearly travel plan. Looking at the marbles serves a bigger purpose. It’s my weekly reminder not to waste my time. It has prompted me to reflect on my relationships, how I spend my time and with who.
I am hoping this post will spark you to do the same! Please share how many amazing weekends you calculated and what is on your list. Use the #don’tloseyourmarbles to share your weekend adventures.
