We recommend staying at the luxurious CERVO Hotel, which is located in the heart of the village and offers stunning views of the Matterhorn. Be sure to explore the best restaurants that Zermatt has to offer, such as the traditional Chez Vrony and the modern Wildi.
Excursions
Gornergrat Railway
One of the best excursions in Zermatt is the Gornergrat RailwayGornergrat Railway, a scenic journey to the summit of the Gornergrat mountain. The electric cogwheel railway is one of the most spectacular routes in the world and provides some of the most stunning views of the Matterhorn and surrounding Swiss Alps.
Matterhorn Paragliding
One of the most unique and exhilarating experiences you can have in Zermatt is para gliding. Imagine soaring over the majestic Swiss Alps, with a breathtaking view of the Matterhorn in the distance. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity that you do not want to miss.
Sledding/ Sledging
For those seeking a more leisurely experience, sledding is another great activity to try in Zermatt. Rent a sled and make your way down the picturesque slopes, taking in the beauty of the surrounding scenery. This is a fun and easy activity that is suitable for all ages and skill levels.
The toboggan run on the Gornergrat is not only the Alps’ highest but also one of the most beautiful. Zermatt’s mountain panorama with the Matterhorn offers the ultimate setting for sledging. The thrilling run lasts about 10 minutes.
SPA Day
Mountain Ashram Spa
MOUNTAIN ASHRAM SPA located in the Cervo Hotel is a must-visit destination for spa enthusiasts and nature lovers alike. The spa features the Mountain Ashram Flow. They use a unique blend of Japanese onsen, Bhutanese hot stone baths, and the Northern European art of sauna. This spa incorporates local herbs and fresh spring water, bringing together the best of the world’s ancient spa traditions.
It’s important to note that the common areas of the Swiss Spa are co-ed. Hence, nudity in the changing rooms and showers is common. However, this should not deter anyone from visiting the spa. Even a conservative American like myself was able to enjoy the experience. I chose to wear my bikini in the outdoor amenities. That said I am curious if it’s acceptable to use the amenities in the nude. I was the only one using tha facities so I did not get to find out.
Massage
The massage experience at Mountain Ashram Spa is like no other. I was greeted by my masseur, Mike, who was professional, knowledgeable, and truly dedicated to his craft. The massage room was candlelit and had floor-to-ceiling windows with a stunning view of the Matterhorn and Swiss Alps. It was an unforgettable experience.
Ammenities
Guest are allotted a two-hour window for spa services included in your stay. Please note appointments may be necessary. The spa amenities include a cold plunge pool, a heated pool, sauna, and two meditation yurts. The cold plunge was a hard no for me. The heated yurts were a peaceful retreat, offering crystal water, tea, and nuts. It was an unforgettable experience with a breathtaking view of the Matterhorn. I highly recommend taking a dip in the outdoor heated pool. The entire outdoor spa facilty has a direct view of the snow capp swiss apls and the Matterhorn.
